Diamond engagement ring has black mark inside, why?

I purchased a $3000 3/4 ct diamond engagement ring for my girlfriend in September from a jewelry store chain that is very reputable. Over the last month we’ve noticed a tiny black mark inside of the diamond, only noticeable from the sides, not on top. We took it back there and the lady said this is a normal characteristic of a real diamond and that sometimes this just happens. It proves the diamond is real. Anyone ever heard of this?

You got jugged. It’s an impurity. Diamonds that are impure are cheaper, and contain more junk in them. Take it to be appraised by another jeweler and see if you got ripped off.
